You want to prevent that so you should increase your metabolic rate not slow it down.
Another problem people losing weight face is how to keep the weight down. Most people experience a weight gain as soon as they quit the diet. This is mostly because they lose weight too fast. Lose weight slowly and you will not have to worry about gaining it back.
